Officially it's a Southern Railway overpass, a narrow, one-lane stone-and-concrete tunnel that still carries trains over Colchester Road. Unofficially, it's been the center of a Northern Virginia legend for decades: a man in a rabbit costume, supposedly an escaped asylum patient, said to attack trespassers with a hatchet, sometimes near Halloween, sometimes year-round depending on who's telling it.
Local historians have traced it back to real 1970 police reports of a man in a rabbit suit threatening people, but the murder stories that grew up around it were never substantiated. There are dozens of versions of this legend, so dig into a few before you sketch.
